RSA Scholarship Information
Rehabilitation Services Administration Undergraduate
Training Stipend
The University of Maine at Farmington announces that the Rehabilitation Services Program at the university has been awarded a $375,000 training grant by the Federal Office of Special Education and Rehabilitation Services (OSERS) to Support undergraduate rehabilitation education.
Beginning in the Fall 2002 academic year, $75,000 per year for five years will be awarded to the program and will primarily fund scholarship for students enrolled at UMF as majors in the Rehabilitation Services Program.
In order to be eligible to apply for these scholarships, rehabilitation majors must have completed a minimum of 53 undergraduate credit hours.
The UMF Rehabilitation Services Program builds on a liberal arts core, with specialized study in assessment and evaluation strategies, psychosocial aspects of disabling and handicapping conditions, counseling theory and skills, person-centered planning, civil rights legislation, resource acquisitions, career development, addiction and mental health treatment services, and therapeutic recreation activities. Graduates are prepared to work with diverse client populations in terms of age, disability, socioeconomic background, culture and ethnicity.
As a recipient of the RSA scholarship, students agree to abide to a payback agreement which states that if he or she does not meet the requirements of the scholarship, that he or she will repay all or part of any scholarship received, plus interest.
To apply for the RSA Scholarship, students need to submit the following:
- An application consisting of contact information, questions concerning the student's status (year, program, GPA) as well as FAFSA information, and a signature page
- A completed Resume including volunteer experience as well as experience with individual's with disabilities
- Two letters of recommendation
- Current college transcript
- Medical documentation of a disability, if application
- Personal essay
